it's september 1st and fall is most definitely upon us here in the northeast. paradise for me is 65 and overcast, with snuggly sweaters and crunchy leaves. the pacific northwest would be heaven, if i were sure that i could live with "paradise" every day of the year, which i probably couldn't. still, as much as i'll miss summer's long days and leisurely pace, i do love these first crisp days after months of oppressive heat and humidity. if scotland is anything like this, i'm in for a fantastic time.
the other day i went into the main shared building here at work, which they have just completely rehabbed, mostly with reclaimed raw wood. it smelled just like a cabin and made me so reminiscent of big sur, yosemite and mount rainier. it just had that distinct musty national park sort of smell that i love. of course, this is more like a cabin you'd see in dwell magazine, but you get the idea. thus our plan is for a camping weekend when we get back from bonnie scotland, because it's always one of those things we love the idea of but never do. we bought a tent for california and only ever used it there. unfortunately we somehow lost it shortly after, but we've bought another one and are ready for some hiking, campfires and cozy sleeping bags. which reminds me, i have to buy a sleeping bag.
i feel another season of big plans that don't come to fruition coming on...
